Threshing barn. C16. Timber framed, weatherboard cladding replacing original
daub , corrugated iron roof replacing thatch. 4 bays, cart entrance in
second bay from east at north side. Hipped roof. Interior: Substantial
timber framed construction with massive ground cills, end posts and bay
posts, wall plate. Best preserved at 2 eastern end gable bays and on all
3 north bays, with lower panel with downstanding head braces and upper
panel up-standing foot braces, rails and mid-bay posts. West end gable
and 3 bays of south side partly replaced with posts only original. 3 massive
principal trusses; complete with arched braces at east with single arched
brace only at centre, both braces missing at west. Roof mostly C18 replacement
with some reused rafters. Truss of angled Queen post struts with clasped
through purlins with 4 collars, ridge beam. Tie beams reported to have
mortices of earlier Crown post roof. C1700 framed lean-to cowhouse attached
at south-east. Late C19 6 bay cattle hovel attached at north-west with
good quality framed bay divisions and lintols, rear wall of brick, old
tile roof.
