C19. Square stone building with slate roof and retaining its cowl. Inside,
a flue (still intact) winds round the walls of the kiln. Fresh air entering
at intakes near the floor was heated indirectly from the hot flue wall
before rising through the hop-drying floor. Said to be the only fresh
air oast surviving in Sussex. Listed for technical rarity.
