The core of the house was built about 1700 by William Penn of Pennsylvania and
his wife Guilelma Springett, of whose estate is formed part. The south or
main front was built by William Penn IV about 1737. Two storeys and attic.
Seven windows. Four dormers. Red brick. Tiled roof. Windows in architrave
surrounds with keystones over and glazing bars intact. The centre portion of
five window bays projects slightly. The flanking portions of one window each
were originally of one storey but were heightened in 1830. Long and short
stone quoins to each section. Rusticated stone doorway with keystone. Door of
six fielded panels. The centre of the north or entrance front dates from 1700.
The projecting wings, which make it half-H shaped were added by Stephen Beeching
in 1830.
