2.
Field Barn, C.1800. Walls of stone at ends and to west side, but of brick
to east side. The building is of five bays and originally had one narrow aisle
on the east side. Large outshuts have been added, at a not much later date
to the west side and south end and the whole re-roofed, providing a long tile
catslide on the west and south sides which is interrupted by the cart entry,
and an uninterrupted sweep on the east side. Gunstock jowls to the posts,
short straight braces to the tie beams, and angle strut trusses. Diagonal
braces to the ground from the jowls of the posts. A handsome and characteristic
example of a Sussex field barn.
