Listing Text

TQ 63 Nw 8/366 Barn about 40 metres
east-south east of
Manor Farmhouse
Barn. Probably C18. Timber framed clad in weatherboarding and with brick (random
bond) plinth. Half-hipped roof, corrugated iron on north side and plain clay
tiles on south side. Plan: 6-bay barn with threshing floor in third bay from
the south east end and separated from the flanking bays by low partitions.
Small later (probably C19) outshut at the south east end was probably stables.
Exterior: The north east front has a cart entrance to left of centre and the
south west front has a smaller doorway opposite to right of centre, both with
boarded double doors. At the south east end the outshut has a doorway to the
right and a small window immediately to its left, both with boarded doors.
Interior: Timber-frame structure is complete. Close-studded walls with tension
braces, staggered purlins mid-rails and posts with jowled heads. Tie-beam and
queen-post trusses. Common rafter roof with no ridge-piece; straight windbraces
over the threshing bay only. Over the low threshing bay partition walls there
are long straight braces to the wall posts. Part of the boarded threshing floor
