Laurel Bank Terrace
Row of cottages. C16 or earlier timber-framed building, re-roofed and
refronted in C18 and refenestrated in C19. Rendered with tiled roof
with large central brick chimneystack and 2 other chimneystacks. 2
storeys and attics: 6 windows. 3 hipped dormers with casement windows.
6 C19 casements. Flat band, except to number 3. Numbers 3 and 5 have
plank doors, others have C20 doors. Rear elevation has render to
ground floor of numbers 2 and 3 and tile hanging to first floor.
Numbers 4 and 5 are weatherboarded. Number 3 may retain the remains
of a possible unadorned spere truss of c1350 with cut tracing. It also
has a late C16 or early C17 open fireplace with wooden bressumer with
run-out stops and sandstone sides. Spine beam with lambs tongue stop.
Gunstock jowled posts to upper floor. Roof altered in C18 has through
purlins, collar beam and inserted ridgepiece. Number 2 has late C16
spine-beam on first floor and C18 open fireplace and spine beam with
run out stops to ground floor. Number 4 has a C18 spine beam but the
old bakeoven beside the central chimney-stack had been removed. Number
5 retains C16 beams.
