Built in 1823 for Thomas Broadwood. Architect Francis Edwards, but Broadwood
is said to have designed the plan of the house. Large castellated mansion.
Ashlar. Two storeys. Castellated parapet. The main front faces south-east
and has 14 windows. It consists of 2 sections of different heights. The
main portion has 7 windows, of which the 3 centre ones project. Octagonal
turrets at the angles with loop lights. The remainder to the west, also of
7 windows has a lower elevation. Sash windows with dripstones over, the glazing
bars intact in the eastern half of the front. Doorway with pilasters, pediment,
semi-circular fanlight and recessed door of 6 fielded panels. Entrance or
north-west front 16 windows. Tower of 3 storeys with octagonal turret at
north end. Lower octagonal turret towards the centre. Classical porch with
pediment. Recessed section without castellation towards south end and projection
beyond it. Good example of a castellated mansion.
