House, former keeper's cottage. Late C16 smoke bay house with rear outshut later
built up to form lower two storey rear wing. Main and front wing has timber
framed first floor with infill partly of plastered wattle and daub and partly
of brick, from which the later tile-hanging has been removed; ground floor of
brick and of stone with brick quoins. Steeply pitched plain clay tile roof
with gablet to north; brick stack to south gable above late C17 internal brick
chimney breast. Two storeys. Square panels of timber framing with straight
braces. East elevation with centre doorway with brick dressings and flanking
windows also with brick dressings. Three windows on upper floor and traces also
of a mullioned window at N E corner. Inside, exposed panel of timber framing;
ground floor hearth room with brick inglenook fireplace with salt shelf;
exposed beams and stopped and chamfered joists. Smoke blackening to former smoke
bay; side purlin and queen strut roof with windbraces; carpenter's marks on
rafters.
