Group of late C18-early C19 houses now forming a north-south wing to the
westernmost part of Morant's stores. (Nos 17 and 18 West Street). Formerly
4 cottages, now merely a facade as the partitioning walls between the cottages
have been demolished. Red tiled roof. Small brick dentilled eaves cornice,
No 55 of grey headers with red brick dressing, Nos 53-54 and No 56 of red brick
only (brickwork in No 56 partly renewed). 3 northernmost cottages (Nos 53-55)
have 1 window each above and below; ground floor windows in segmental headings
with rubbed brick voussoirs. Doors in reveals; originally flush panelled.
Doorways with moulded wooden architraves with flat hoods on consoles over.
No 56 has a parapet and 2 (modern) windows above. Doorway with grooved
pilasters and entablature over; wooden boarded door.
