C19. Complex comprising water mill, auxiliary engine house and storage annexe. Red
brick and weather-boarding. Tiled roofs. The central water mill has 4 storeys with
attic. Red brick, the top portion faced with weather-boarding. Three bays of round-
headed windows in lower storeys and square-headed in upper section, all with glazing
bars. External iron overshot waterwheel with iron panstock and pipe launder drives
4 pairs of mill-stones via layshaft. This layshaft represents very advanced water-
wheel technology and is of considerable interest. The layshaft can also be driven by
a 1906 Tangye suction gas engine which, along with its gas producer plant, is housed
in a 2-storeyed brick and weather-boarded extension. Further 2-storeyed weather-
boarded annexe (on downstream side of the mill) carried on 2 brick arches. Two bays
of round-headed windows with glazing bars. This complex is of exceptional
technological interest.
