11.10.85 St Francis'
Water tower. 1859 by H E Kendall junior forming part of Lunatic Asylum complex
(qv St Francis' Hospital). Yellow brick with red brick decoration, roof concealed
by elaborate parapet. Square plan of 6 storeys with elongated domed bastizans
to top storey and suggestion of battlements between. Most storeys have 2 round-
headed windows with casement windows, except for the 4th storey which has
rectangular openings and the windows are outlined by brick impost bands. An
elaborate treatment for a functional building and in the same style as the hospital.
