6/175 No 125 (Froyles)
House. C16 refronted in C18. Timber-framed building on sandstone plinth refronted
on east elevation in brick, now painted, but with square framing with plastered
infill exposed on south elevation; tiled roof. 2 storeys and attics, 4 windows.
Brick band. 4 sashes in moulded architraves, 2 of which are tripartite. Attic
storey has 2 flat-topped domes. Off central doorcase with flat wooden hood on
brackets, rectangular fanlight and 6 fielded panelled door. End brick chimney
stack. In 1806 a Dr Richard Tuppen inherited the property. Charles Dickens was
a close friend of his and frequently visited the house.
