12/11/65 Banqueting Hall
Banqueting Hall. 1860-62 by Dobson for Sir William (later Lord) Armstrong.
T-plan. Rock-faced sandstone on rubble plinth and 2 courses of pecked ashlar;
large blocks. Roofless. One high storey, 7 bays, the central projecting and
wider under gable. Double door, and fanlight with substantial glazing bars,
between Tuscan pilasters, with sidelights, set in high rusticated round arch.
Flanking smaller arched blind windows. 3 tall windows of similar style at each
side. Left and right returns have blind roundels above round-arched windows.
Interior shows polychrome brick walls. A controlled ruin at time of survey.
