buildings and attached wall
approx. 2m. S of The Cedars


Barn, 2 cart arches, stables and farmbuildings and attached wall. Part of front
range 1690; barn and other buildings, and remodelling early C19. Coursed squared
ironstone with splayed cornice. Slate hipped roofs; brick ridge stacks. U-plan,
with right return side of right wing to street. Front to street has cart arch in
raised section towards right end. Basket arch with keystone. Left end has slight
projection with two C20 garage doors inserted. Right range has 2 windows with
glazing bars and painted wood lintels. Left return side has datestone with
initials B.W.E. To courtyard: wings have similar cart arches on axis. Right wing
has 3 stable doors and 3 two-light casements with horizontal glazing bar.
Painted wood lintels throughout. Right part, set back slightly, is of 2 storeys;
2-window range. Plank: doors to left and right, and central plank door above
ground level. C20 casement to right. First floor has wood cross-windows. Central
range has formerly open left half, with recessed c20 stables inserted. 6 stable
doors in whitewashed wall. Right half has plank door and pitch door.
Segmental-arch and doorway with large wood lintel have double doors replaced
with stable door, boarding and 2-light casement. 2 stable doors on right. 5-bay
barn in left has wing vents in lozenge patterns. Queen strut roof. Attached
garden wall has coped top. The buildings form a single large composition.
