Upper Brailes
11/56 Brailes Hill Farmhouse


Farmhouse, now house. Late C17. Regular coursed limestone rubble to right part,
very finely jointed squared limestone to left. Steeply pitched slate roof. Stone
coping to left. Moulded stone end and ridge stacks, the right stack renewed on a
stone base. L-plan. 2 storeys plus attic. 3-window range. Gable front bay to
right. Entrance off-centre to right has panelled door with 2 glazed lights and
moulded wood frame. C20 gabled stone arch. To left a 4-light mullioned window
with king mullion, hood mould and label stops. To far left a 3-light mullioned
window with hood mould and label stops. First floor has 2- and 3-light stone
mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops. Right part has a 2-light
casement, with fastener and some wrought-iron springs. Right end has 3-light
casements to ground and first floors. Interior: stop-chamfered beams, chamfered
joists, stop-chamfered bressumers and jambs to inglenook fireplaces, bread oven,
C19 straight flight staircase with quarter turn.
