Ruby Cottage and attached Cottage

3/111 Ruby Cottage and attached


Two cottages, formerly 4. Late C17/C18 and mid/late C18. Coursed ironstone
rubble. Corrugated iron roofs; brick ridge and end stack. L-plan with wing to
rear. Ruby Cottage, to front, originally 2-unit plan, but now incorporates
one-unit cottage in rear wing. One storey and attic; one-window range. Central
entrance has old moulded 2-panelled plank door. Chamfered wood lintel, Old
casements: 3-light to left has stone hood mould: 2-light to right with painted
chamfered wood lintel. Raked roof dormer on left has casement with glazing bars,
Semi-circular bread oven projection on left. Right return has attic window.
2-storey, 5-window wing. First 2 bays now part of Ruby Cottage; remainder is a
separate unnamed cottage. Plank doors in second and fourth bays. Doorway on
right has C20 window inserted. Old 2-light casements, some with leaded lights.
Swept dormer on right. Interior of Ruby Cottage noted as having wide open
fireplace. Both cottages were formerly thatched; the wing has remains of swept
