Manor house. Possibly medieval in origin, with C16 and C17 additions. Squared,
coursed limestone with plinth, quoins and coped gables. Tile roofs with stone
end and lateral stacks with 2 flues diagonally set and with moulded plinth and
cornice. 2 storeys plus attic; 4-window range. T-shaped plan. To centre a plank
door within an ovolo-moulded stone surround. To left a renewed 3-light
concave-moulded mullioned window. To left the lateral stack, with a 2-light,
concave-moulded mullioned window to left. To right of door a 3-light wood leaded
casement, with a single chamfered light to right. To first floor are three
2-light ovolo-aoulded mullioned windows. Extending forward from left a one-bay
projection with a 3-light wood casement to 2 floors, and an ovolo-moulded
2-light mullioned window above. 2 small later gabled dormers in roof of main
range. To rear, the range is divided into 2 building periods, that to right
earlier, and of rougher rubble. Within this is a Tudor ovolo-moulded arch with
modern door. To centre right a later square-headed ovolo moulded doorway with
overlight. To centre and right a 3-light and a 4-light concave-moulded mullioned
and transomed window. Above are three 3- and 4-light concave-moulded mullioned
windows. These windows probably date from C16. Above Tudor doorway, in centre of
wall, a blocked window. To left, in later range, a 4-light ovolo-moulded
mullioned window to ground and first floors. All windows have hood moulds and
label stops. To right of house a service range of one storey plus attic. 3
straight-chamfered 3-light mullioned windows, a single chamfered light and plain
stone doorway. A lean-to shelter over doorway rests on stone plinth and wood
pillars. Interior: ovolo-moulded spine beams throughout ground floor except in
later service range. Stone flagged floors. C17 open well staircase at side of
main stack, rising to attics. Heavy turned balusters. First floor also has
ovolo-moulded spine cross beams. 4-centred-arched chamfered stone fireplace.
Trenched purlin roof with collars. Also in attic a small ashlar chamfered stone
fireplace with 4-centred-arch. Many doors are 6-panelled with moulded wood
surrounds.
