Walter Savage Landor (1775-1864) essayist and poet, was born here. Good
1692-3 early C18 symmetrical brick facade with stone dressings. Heavy
painted wood cornice at eaves with carved modillions and egg-and-tongue
enrichment. Rusticated stone quoins, plain stone string band at first
floor, moulded stone plinth. Probably late C18 sashes in moulded frames
with wide spaced glazing bars (2 panes wide, 4 panes high), in brick reveals
with stone keystones, cutter flat arches. Projecting side wings, each
2 window wide. Central 3 window portion has good entrance doorway with
painted stone surround. It has segmental pediment, carved console brackets,
bolection moulded architrave with stone keyblock, large 6-fielded- panelled
door and good semi-circular fanlight. Wrought iron railings are simple
in character but overthrow is of ornamental scrollwork. Three plain gabled
dormers in hipped roof of old tiles.

Interior contains excellent staircase of 1692 panelled entrance hall,
first floor sitting room and headmistress's study.
