Circa 1500 timber-framed cruck cottage extended to west (two storey section) in
C17. One complete cruck and one truncated cruck at south-east gable remain.
Partly on sandstone plinth. Red brick infill panels. South-east gable faced in
red brick in C19. Steeply pitched thatched roof with gabled ends, the northwest
end has slightly higher roof level and the centre has lower eaves. Two storeys,
centre single storey, four window range. Mostly old two- and three-light
casements with glazing bars. Plank door to left of front elevation (to No 6),
and modern door on south-east gable (to No 5). Two brick ridge chimney stacks
off centre. Interior: the central room has an axial beam with scroll stops and
two half beams held by brackets pinned to the cruck studs. Scroll stops to the
fireplace beam in the central room and also to the ceiling beam in the C17
addition.
