House. C16, with C18 brick encasement; later alterations; C20 additions and
alterations. Red brick; old plain-tile complex roof; various stacks including
massive stone-based lateral stack to rear with diagonally-set brick flues.
Probably originally a hall-house plan, with later alterations. 2-storey, 2-bay
original pain range, with 3-storey cross-wing to right. Plank door to 2-storey
porch at junction of main range and cross-wing. C19 casements with segmental
brick heads to most openings. Right return: timber-framed gable end with
arch-braced collar truss infilled with C20 herring-bone brick. Interior:
straight-flight staircase with winders from ground to first floor. Winder
staircase from first floor to seconf loor of cross-wing. Massive open fireplace
to ground floor of cross-wing. First floor rear room of cross-wing has
close-studded timber-frame walls with basket arched doorways. C20 additions to
left not of special architectural interest.
