7/53 Barratts Farmhouse, off

Farmhouse, now derelict and partly in use as a farm building. C16/17, with C19
alterations and some rebuilding. Timber-framed: large framing with C19 and C20
brick infill; some lath and plaster infill may survive beneath render to rear.
Right part and left return side largely rebuilt in brick. Old plain-tile roof;
C19 brick internal stacks. 4-unit through-passage plan, with small C19
projection on right. 2 storeys; 3-window range. Irregular front has plank door
between first and second bays; another door is boarded up. Irregular
fenestration of C19 and C20 casements and wood mullioned and transomed windows,
mostly boarded up or obscured by ivy. Slightly lower projection has short
catslide roof, with a large stack immediately above it. Interior has
timber-framed walls with lath and plaster infill, and chamfered beams. 2 open
fireplaces: one has C19 moulded wood cornice; the other has C19 range and
cupboards inserted. Panelled screen to through-passage. Panelled and plank
doors. Straight-flight staircase, and C19 quarter-turn staircase with winders.
First floor has stud partitions. Queen strut roof has large wind braces.
