GV II
House. c. 1840, extended late C19. Tudor Gothic style. Coursed and squared
sandstone. Slate roof to house part and concrete tiles to service range. Parapet
gable ends on kneelers to house. End stacks with entablatures. Cellar and two
storeys. Symmetrical facade. Central gabled porch with parapeted gable and
4-centred outer and inner arches. 3 unglazed loop openings in the side walls.
Half-glazed door. Flanking 2-storey, canted bays with hipped roofs and one hung
sash to each face of the bay, each in 4-centred moulded arch. There is an
extension of 1886 for Mr. Pemberton, the County coroner. The date is on the
fireplace. This may also be the date of other additions to the service range on
the north west. The dining-room has reset early C18 raised and fielded panelling
in 2 heights. The house is associated with a sandstone quarry which is about 50
metres to the south-east.
