13/172 Yew Tree Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Early C17, extended late C17. Timber-frame exposed, with brick infill
painted white. Plain-tiled roof, hipped at ends. Internal stack rebuilt above
the ridge. Originally of 3 bays, including narrower chimney bay, with entry to
cross-passage at end of hall. Extended by narrower service bays at each end,
late C17, and by a single bay at the rear. One storey and attics. 2 modern
dormers. 4 C20 three cross-frame casements at ground floor, one on the site of
the original doorway. Framing exposed, although replaced in part, particularly
in centre bay. Small framing of height of 3 panels to each wall. Curved upward
bracing in centre bay. The end bays are later in date and have similar small
framing. Rear wing is timber-framed with red brick to gable end. End stack. One
storey and attic. Interior: 2 original centre bays. Moulded main beam but joists
are unmoulded. Inglenook hearth. At west end the single-bay service addition
retains original partition wall between buttery and pantry. Through-purlin roof,
wind braced with studs between collar and tie beam.
