SU 27 NE BAYDON FINCHES LANE

2/106 Barn at Finches Farm, in yard
80m south-east of farmhouse

Corn barn. C17. Flint and stone low walls. Timber framed with
corrugated iron replacing thatch c1950. 6 bays, aisled both sides
and hipped midstrey. Jowelled posts with braces to slightly
cambered ties. Raking strut and collar trusses supporting 2 tiers
of purlins with windbraces. Roof hipped over last bay both ends.
The farm (not included) is said to have been bought for the nephew
of Sir Isaac Newton. Contents of the house are described in a
probate inventory of 1669.
