Row of 4 cottages, now 2 houses. Late C18, altered C19 and C20. Painted
brick to front; right return of flint with brick quoins, bands, flue and
gable; thatched roof, with plain tiles to rear wing of No 75; brick stacks. 1½
storeys, 7 windows to upper floor. On left, archway to former through-
passage, now leading to door of No 73/75. No 77 has C20 door. Small-pane
sashes and side-sliding sashes, some C19 but No 73/75 with mostly late-C20
small-pane windows; a large small-pane bow window to No 77. Upper floor
windows are smaller, mostly framed (or originally framed) by timber eaves
plate and eyebrow dormer frames. No 73/75 retains eyebrow dormers but over No
77 eaves have been raised. No 73/75 has c.1985 reproduction Insurance plaque.
Corniced brick stacks at ends and double stack at centre of ridge. Rear: C20
extensions not of special interest. Interior of No 73/75: original rear wall
has a former segmental-arched doorway and window at either end, those at right
end blocked, those at left end with original 2-ply 4-panel door and moulded
wood frame, mullion, and iron stanchion to window. Left-hand room has a plain
fireplace with old range and chamfered cross-beam. On upper floor, an
original small 2-light window with iron saddle bars in rear wall; and old
bead-moulded door; and original partition walls with timber studs. Interior
of 77 not inspected.Although the Sun Insurance plaque is a reproduction, the
company did insure this house. Included for group value.
