5/36 Three Horseshoes
Cottage. Late C17 or early C18. Brick, flint and clunch in bands.
Thatched roof. Single storey and attic, originally 2 bays lobby
entry plan and 1 bay outbuilding, at north end raised to form third
bay in C19 and central door blocked. Now entrance is in C19 single
storey structure at north end, former smithy, much rebuilt. Cogged
string course. C19 timber casement windows and 1 late C20 ground
floor window. Thatch swept over 3 dormers and roof half-hipped.
House is extended into the former smithy. The cottage was at one
time an alehouse called the Three Horseshoes.
