27.5.64 Old Malthouse and barn)
GV II
House. C16 and C17. Timber framed with brick noggings. Thatched
roof. Single storey and attic, the centre raised to 2 storeys.
'U'-plan, comprising a 2-bay centre block with lobby entrance in
left bay against large double stack occupying whole bay. Two-
storey framed forward wings both ends, the west wing added, and a
second parallel wing added at the east end in late C18-early C19,
and having a 2-storey bow window to rear. Six-panelled door.
Framework has jowled posts and clasped purlin roofs, the framing 3-
panels high with corner braces. The centre right bay has raking
rafters incorporated into the raising of the walls.
Interior has some fielded and panelled C18 doors to lobby. Central
stack is of 2 builds, conjoined, one of stone. Left wing contains
two parlours with chamfered ceiling beams, a stone chamfered
fireplace in the gable of the front parlour, a timber lintel over
the rear fireplace in the main stack, and a C18 corner cupboard.
Right wing contains service rooms. The added wing has early C19
Egyptian style fireplace.
