Country House, c1820, probably on C18 core, ashlar and rendered
brick with slate hipped roofs and brick stacks. 2-storey, 3-window
centre set back on high plinth with 2-storey early C19 verandah
partly enclosed by projecting single storey bow-fronted wings.
Rendered and irregular 2-storey rear range. Main front has moulded
cornice and parapet, largely obscured by verandah, slightly
projected centre, early C19 double doors to ground floor centre,
arch-headed French windows in reeded surround to first floor centre
and 12-pane sashes each side. Paterae flanking centre bay on first
floor with wheat-ear garlands. Verandah has 6 thin iron columns to
ground floor and 8 wooden trellis uprights above with iron
balconies between. Slate roof. Main cornice is continued on West
side wall. Flanking wings have three 12-pane sashes to bow fronts,
raised plinths, moulded sill-courses, panelled cornices and
parapets with moulded coping. C20 ashlar-fronted open garden room
added to East of East wing.
Interior: generally Regency style door and window detail to front
range, iron stair rail. Both wings have single room with shallow
coved ceiling and decorative frieze.
House is marked on 1773 Andrews and Drury map, said to date from
'shortly before 1821' (Pevsner).
