2/8 The Coffee Tavern
GV II
Two cottages in row. C17 and C18. Colourwashed sarsen, partly
timber framed on upper floor. Thatched roof. South gable
rebuilt in blockwork. Each cottage of 2 bays, the left of 2
storeys, the right single storey and attic, later raised to 2
storeys. Later entrance doors in bay 3 within open blockwork and
tiled porch. Bay 2 has blocked door and framed upper floor, the
framing 2 panels high with corner braces. Bay 4, at north end,
has framed dormer incorporated in raising of walls. Various
windows, some paned. Brick gable stacks. Tiled lean-to at north
end. The building stands in an important position in the centre
of the village, and is locally reputed to have been a coffee house.
