Milestone on later Swindon to Marlborough turnpike. Probably early
C19. Painted stone. Shaft a chord of a cylinder, with grooved
top. Painted legend reading: TO SWINDON / 9 / MARLBRO 2. Bench
mark at top and brass pin inserted. The road was turnpiked in 1819
to replace the old turnpike over Ogbourne Maisey Down.
