SU 17 SE OGBOURNE ST ANDREW VILLAGE CENTRE

7/74 The Forge
II
Cottage. Early C17, with later alterations. Timber framed with
brick noggings, stone, and thatched roof. Single storey and attic.
Two bays with lobby entry opposite stack at left end, the door
replaced by window. Framing 2 panels high with curved corner
braces. Two and 3-light timber windows with iron casements of C17
type. Third bay of sarsen added to left end under extension of
roof, formerly containing forge.
Internally; central bay has large fireplace with chamfered mantel
beam, and curved windbraces to clasped purlin roof. Framed bays
have chamfered spine beams and similar chamfered joists. Stair
position altered.
