SU 15 NE (south side)

13/78 Court House

House and flat. Late C16, C17, C18 and C19. Timber framed with
roughcast infilling on brick and flint footings. West facade of
brick with stone dressings. Thatched roof. Two storeys and
attics. Two bays to street with a further three bays added
individually, stepping down hill, the last a single storey with
attic forming the flat. Framing 3 panels high with wavy corner
braces, and decorative framing to the gable of the fourthbay,
which also has carved barge boards. Blocked 3-light ovolo moulded
window. Entrance from street to hall in second bay from right;
C19 timber and thatched porch. C18 facade added to return wing, 2-
storeys an attic, 5 bays, diaper brickwork. On ground floor
central glazed door and flanking large square bays of C19 with
hipped slate roofs linked to form porch. On first floor a large
canted oriel with 12-pane sashes; other windows 16-pane sashes.
Two recessed dormers to attics. Gable stacks. Hipped slated 2-
storey C19 extension in re-entrant angle at rear.
Interior: Original building of hall and parlour, with first added
bay on left a kitchen added C17 with stack backing on to hall
stack, forming bacon cupboard. Original hall probably had smoke
(WILBR B.264)
