6/187 Box Cottage

II

House. C17 and early C19. Part timber framed on sarsen footings,
later part brick, with thatched roof. Single storey and attic,
raised to 2 storeys, and extended or refaced in C19 as 2-storey
building. Framing has rendered infilling, 3 panels high with
slightly cusped corner braces, now surviving for 1 bay only, and
the gable tile hung. Canted oriel window to first floor of framed
section. Work to right of 3 bays, with central door and timber
casement windows in segmental headed openings, and a blue flush
string. Gable stack and stack at junction of the two builds. Roof
hipped. Lean-to on right end.
