(north side)
5/22 Glebe House
Farmhouse, now house, late C17 and early C18. Diaper brick with
raised stone quoins and dressings, tiled roof. Two storeys,
cellar, and attics, 5 bays. Elevation approximately symmetrical,
with C20 hardwood door and flat canopy on brackets. Moulded mid
wall string. Ground floor has, to left, 3-light cyma moulded
mullioned windows with central iron casement. Two-light window to
right with keystone in gauged arches. Moulded single light windows
either side of door, that to left removed. Above, reserve
chamfered cross windows, also with leaded lights. End narrow bays
have vertical oval lights with keyed moulded surrounds. Central
window over door and C18 raised and moulded 2-light window. Gable
stacks. C20 three-bay extension to left with 2 dormer windows, now
an independent dwelling.
Interior has large entrance hall with stair at rear and C18
panelling. Right drawing room has spine beam with reserved ovolo
moulding and bar stops, and stone fireplace. Cellar under.
Fireplace to left room blocked and beam boxed. One upper floor
moulded stone fireplace to bedroom over drawing room, and closets
at each end with oval windows. Handrail to stair c1700. Roof of 5
bays probably reconstructed in early C19. To rear a single bay
single storey wing to left bay heightened to 2 storeys in early
C20, and second C19 wing behind hall.
