Description

MARKET LAVINGTON NORTHBROOK
SU 0054-0154
(east side)
12/166 The Rest
II
Cottage end to street. Late C17-early C18. Colourwashed greensand
rubble lined with chalkstone, thatched roof. Single storey and
attic, originally a single heated bay with gable stack, a second
bay, now kitchen, added behind stack in similar construction.
Boarded door with shaped head under thatched canopy. Small paned
timber casement windows. Bathroom extension added C20 to right
gable.
Internally, living room has unshaped spine beam resting on
chalkstone open fireplace with replaced timber lintel. Probably
oven removed when door broken through and second bay added. Roof
of round pole timber and elementary pole collars. An interesting
example of a surviving humble dwelling.
