7/167 Drummer Boy's Post
II
Finger post. C19. Cast iron. A tapered shaft set on moulded
cylindrical base. At top, three wooden arms reading SALISBURY,
DEVIZES, and LAVINGTON. Urn finial. Restored c1980. Associated
in legend with the appearance of the ghost of a drummer, recorded
by Sir Walter Scott and related by Rev R.H. Barham in Ingoldsby
Legends, second series.
