Crookwood Farmhouse
Barn, now calf penning. Probably C16. Timber framed and
weatherboarded, with long straw thatch grown on the farm. Four
bays, with cartway in second bay. Jowled posts with heavy corner
braces to ties, queen struts and collar. Plated yoke supporting
diagonal ridge. Two tiers of purlins with windbraces to lower
purlin. First bay divided off as calf shed with hay loft over.
Lower two bays have inserted round pole loft on three sides for
straw sheafs. Wall framing has curved angle braces to wall
plates. Roof hipped to right, half hipped to left.
