1834 and later. Ashlar facade to north with a large triangular pediment
to gable-end. Small acroterion on apex of pediment. Semi-circular window
in pediment accompanied by the date 1834 in raised numerals. The pediment
is supported by 3 pilasters with moulded capitals. 2 windows with raised
surrounds between the pilasters. Sashes, glazing bars intact. Lean-to
extension to north. 2 storey section adjoins on south side. Curved corners
at south end where entrance to Old gas works yard is situated. Coursed
rubble. Hipped slate roof. Moulded surround to roof eaves. Painted stringcourse.
3 large windows and 1 small on first-floor, all with projecting surrounds.
Sashes, thin glazing bars intact. 2 windows to ground-floor of similar
character and central mid-C19 shopfront. Fascia to shopfront with rosettes
at each end under projecting entablature. Fascia is supported by 2 pilasters
with moulded panels and moulded capitals and bases. Curved glazing.
Inside the yard, the east range is composed of 3 former coke-ovens. 3
gables with large segmental headed archways to each. Rubble with ashlar
dressings and keystones to archways. The south side of the yard has a
1-storey range of coursed rubble, Hipped slate roof. Wooden eaves cornice.
1 window towards Frome Road and 2 facing north into the yard. Projecting
window surrounds, sashes with thin glazing bars. 2 doors in yard with
plain rectangular ashlar surrounds. Included for group value.
