C17. A medium-sized manor house, irregularly gabled and with tall square
ashlar stacks set diagonally in groups of 2's and 3's. Considerably restored
in places and with some later additons, but still retains numerous original
features. Front elevation is in coursed rubble with ashlar dressings.
2 storeys and attics in 5 gables. All gables have pierced spear-head
finials. Attic windows 2-light casements, with moulded stone mullions
and dripmoulds. Beneath each of the 2 left-hand gables is a 2 storey
angular bay with balustered parapet and 1 3-light window on each floor
with moulded stone mullions. The square central projecting porch has
a room over with 2-light stone-mullioned casement, weathered string at
floor level, moulded cornice and balustered parapet. Doorway has moulded
segmental arch with keystone and imposts, Carved oak ceiling in porch
with date "1665" over inner doorway. Immediately to right of porch are
2 3-light stone mullioned casements, one on each floor, and a 2-light
ditto in gable. Flush relieving arch over 1st floor windows; all have
dripmoulds. To the right again is a projecting bay with large gable and
an angular bay on ground floor with 3-light stone mullioned casement with
single lights on angles moulded cornice and balustered parapet. Above
on 1st floor is a 4-light casement, 2-light ditto in gable. A gabled wing
on the extreme right of frontage has a 3-light stone-mullioned oriel window
(restored), supported on stone corbelling and with shallow embattled parapet.
There is a later 'conservatory' extension on the extreme left of the
frontage and the side elevation at this end has 3 gables and some original
3-light windows with stone mullions, leaded casements and dripmoulds.
In the front of the house is a grasscovered terrace with paved pathways
and balustered parapet. Steps lead down from terrace to sunken garden
partly paved, with low stone surrounding wall having moulded coping and
ornamental urns at intervals.
