Dated 1787. 3 storeys, coursed and squared rubble with rusticated quoins
on projecting plinth. Plain strings at each level. String and coved and
moulded cornice and parapet with moulded coping. Old tile roof. Glazing
bar sash windows on upper floors, outer 3 light flanking central single light,
centre light of outer windows taller on 1st floor (cf No 34 High Street);
architrave frames. Ground floor much altered, now 2 plate glass shop fronts.
Central yard entry retains enriched ceiling (rose of patterned husks) but
sides widened and now plate glass, cornice removed. 2 storey contemporary
(1787) extension to left with strings carried through and old tile roof.
1 glazing bar sash window on 1st floor. 6 panel door with architrave frame
and doorcase of panelled pilasters and double scroll cut brackets supporting
moulded and dentilled cornice and pedimented hood with panelled soffit. 3
ranges of windows at rear, glazing bar sashes, outer windows tripartite on
2nd floor. 1st floor has tented hoods to outer windows. 2 rainwaterheads,
fluted cones, inscribed "J. L. 1787" (not 1767 as mentioned in V.C.H.). Long
low wings on either side of yard.
