On an important site (Hatchett's Corner) closing Market Place to the east
at the junction of Station Road and East Street. Built as a Savings Bank
in 1852. 2 storeys asymmetrical C17 style. Coursed and dressed rubble.
3 windows to west, 2 and attic to south. 2 storey bay on angle. Shaped Dutch
gable with clock and ball finial to left facing west. 2 gabled dormers to
south. Band over ground floor. Mullion and transom windows. Tudor Renaissance
pilaster doorways, with strapwork over entablatures to centre of each front
(west front with fluted pilasters). Included for group value.
