An excellent example of an early C19 suburban classical villa. Built for
Henry Wansey, a prominent local clothier. 2 storeys, attic and basement.
Ashlar built. 1st floor cill band, modillion cornice over triglyph frieze
returned to right, blocking course; large lead rainwater hopper on left return.
3 round headed dormers in mansard slate roof. 3 windows on 1st floor, glazing
bar sashes, 1 tripartite ground floor window to right - French casements,
blind box, segmental headed recess. Later projecting ground floor break to
left with central large bow window of 3 French windows and cornice continued
from portico to which it is contiguous. Central portico with fluted Doric
columns, trilyph frieze, mutule cornice and blocking course, approached by
3 steps. Large doorway with sidelights separated by console brackets (in
the style of Pinch/Baldwin); 8 panel 2 leaf doors, shallow segmental fanlight
with cast iron tracery.
