2.
C17, front lined with late C19 brick. 2 storeys, pantile roof, with central
brick chimney. 2 windows on 1st floor with segmental heads and late glazed
sashes. Large shop window on ground floor, late C19 with scrolled brackets
to modillion fascia. Doorway to right with segment head. Formerly one house
with No 50 (probably partly timber framed). Roof space very interesting,
with 2 tiers of wind braces, chamfered purlins and arch braced collar to northern-most
truss (blocked by chimney). Large and long 2 storey extension at rear, part
timber framed, said to be the remains of a mediaeval or early Tudor hall house.
On ground floor on north side to left is a very fine early C18 stone Venetian
window with Ionic capitals to piers and glazing bars. This matches excellent
classical cornice within and enriched window frame of room inside. Back room
on ground floor retains what could be Tudor moulded beams. 1st floor has
3 rooms, 2 showing strong wind braces to purlins, one jointed post and truss.
