3/13 Tunnel below A36 in the grounds of
Bishopstrow House


Tunnel with north and south portals. Dated 1815 on keystones of
portals. English garden wall bond brick to segmental barrel
vaulted tunnel, portals are round-arched vermiculated ashlar with
large voussoirs and keystones incised with WT/1815, (William
Temple). Constructed to link Bishopstrow House (q.v.) on north
side of road with the gardens of earlier house to the south; the
house was also built for William Temple.
