Detached house. Early C18 with late C18 additions. English bond
brick, tiled roof, brick stacks. Two storey, 3-windowed front;
casements. Six-panelled door with C20 flat wooden hood on brackets
to left of early C18 build, blocked doorway to centre with 2-light
recessed chamfered mullioned casement either side. Dentilled 3-
brick plat band; three 2-light mullioned casements to first floor.
Flush stone quoins, moulded stone eaves cornice and coped verges to
roof. Attached to left is C18 range with outshut to front and C20
flat roofed extension; 2-light casements and gabled half dormer
with 2-light casement. Right return in English garden wall bond
brick, with some stone, 2-light casement to first floor and 2-light
to attic. Rear has 2-light mullioned window to ground and first
floor to left, to right is later C18 wing with C20 two-light
casement to ground and first floors and 2-light mullioned window to
attic, half-hipped roof, to right is C20 conservatory, 2-light
casements and gabled half dormer to range with some early C18
brickwork.
Interior has chamfered beams, stairs with stick balusters, open
fireplace and shutters to windows. Formerly the estate office for
the Heytesbury Estate. Colt Hoare's antiquarian colleague William
Cunnington lived here between 1775 and 1810. (B. Watkin, A Guide
