Milepost. 1840. Cast-iron classical-style post with pedimented
top, plinth, now sunk into ground, good lettering: SALISBURY / 18
/ WARMINSTER / 3. One of a series of cast-iron mile posts and
boundary posts produced in Warminster by iron founders Carson and
Miller c.1840, coinciding with the consolidation of the Turnpike
Act for the radial system around Warminster. (R. Haynes, Wiltshire
Milestones, Leisure in Wiltshire, 1968).
