ST 94 SW
(west side)
4/238 Milepost opposite Sutton Veny
County Primary School

GV II

Milestone. 1840. Cast-iron classical-style pillar with low
pedimented top. Lettering to front: WARMINSTER/TOWN
HALL/3/MILES/CHILMARK/7. Plinth partly sunk at time of survey
(July 1985), but probably has date 1840 and initials C & M/W,
representing Carson and Miller, a firm of Warminster iron founders
manufacturers of a series of cast-iron mileposts and boundary posts
on radial turnpike roads around Warminster, c1840. (R. Haynes,
Wiltshire Milestone, Leisure in Wiltshire, 1968).
