3/239 Lodge to Sutton Veny House


Lodge. Dated 1856 on pediment, for Joseph Everett. Rubble stone
and limestone ashlar, Welsh slate, ashlar stack. Single storey.
Tuscan distyle in antis portico facing drive to house; 4-panelled
door in moulded architrave with 12-pane sash in moulded architrave
either side, rusticated chamfered quoins, pediment over with
Everett family crest and date. Left return has two 12-pane sashes
in moulded architraves, one 2-light casement to flat-headed dormer.
To right return is single storey wing with two sashes. Rear gable
has blind lunette to pediment, attached lean-to extension.
Attached to right are ashlar dwarf walls with cast-iron spearhead
railings to three square ashlar gate piers with ball finials with
spearhead double gates. Very similar to contemporary lodge on
Bishopstrow Road (q.v.).
