4/29 The Manor (formerly listed as
Manor House)
Farmhouse. Mid C17. English garden wall bond brick on rubble
stone plinth, stone slate roof with brick stacks. T-plan. Two-
storey, 2-window. Central C20 double doors in Tudor-arched stone
doorway, 3-light leaded casement either side. Continuous string
course to first floor; two 3-light hollow-chamfered mullioned and
transomed casements, blocked window over door. Wing projecting to
left has 3-light leaded ground floor casement, 3-light mullioned
and transomed first floor casement. Left return has 2-brick plat
bands to first and attic floors, single-light moulded casement to
ground floor and 3-light mullioned casement to first floor, lozenge
diapers in vitrified headers to gable, single-storey rubble stone
extension with artificial stone slates, now kitchen. Right return
has French windows to ground floor, 2-brick plat bands, 3-light
mullioned casements to first and attic floors. Rear has large
corrugated iron lean-to shed to left, not of special interest, 3-
light mullioned and transomed first floor casement, gabled lateral
stack, rear wing to right has mullioned and transomed or mullioned
casements, late C19 two-storey addition on east side.
Interior not accessible at time of survey (March 1987), but said to
have original stairs with turned balusters, chamfered beams, stone
Tudor-arched fireplace and open fireplaces with chamfered lintels
on stone jambs.
