10/97 Whitbourne Springs Farmhouse
GV II
Farmhouse, now detached house. Late C16. Rendered timber-
framing, tiled roof with groups of diagonally-set brick stacks.
Through passage to rear of right stack, 3-cell. Single-storey and
attic, 5-window; 3 gables. Six-panelled door in stone gabled
porch to right of centre, 2-light leaded casement to right, two 3-
light casements and 12-pane sash to left. First floor has three
full gabled dormers to left with 4-light leaded casements, two 3-
light casements to first floor right. Left return has 2-light
leaded casement to ground floor. Rear has C19 and C20 two and 3-
light casements and glazed door, 2-light casements to first floor,
raking C20 dormers to right hand lean-to extension.
Interior has deeply chamfered beams with stepped stops, room to
right of passage has open fireplace with cambered lintel on
chamfered stone jambs, planked door with strap hinges in ovolo-
moulded architrave. Kitchen in original position at east end.
Middle room has C18 corner cupboard with shaped shelves and round
arch with keystone. First floor said to have blocked stone
fireplace in east bedroom, original roof timbers. Timber-framing
with square panels and studding, especially at east end, was
exposed during renovation in 1978.
